The previous name tied us to the other "Satanic" groups who couldn't be more dissimilar us in almost every way. In practice (meditation, ritual, ect) we have more in common with judaism than any of these "Satanist" groups, mainly because judaism stole old occult Pagan knowledge while modern "Satanism" is just a reactionary atheistic force against Christianity. So yeah, the confusion is kind of understandable. Perhaps it would have been better to have called it the Temple of Zeus or another Pagan name from the beginning rather than the Joy of Satan, as that would have made clear our seperation from these other groups. Starting the movement as a "Satanic" one may have been a mistake due to all the baggage "Satanism" has been given by the enemy over the past 2 millenia.

Satan was the central name of our Head God for over 20 years , and now it's just another minor name put in the list of our names for Zeus with the caveat that it is an enemy label. The shift caused shock, as we've seen in the past couple months. It's like living in a house for 20 years and then suddenly in a day the whole family is sent somehwere else, even if it's a better house. There was always going to be strong reactions, especially from those who strongly cling to the Satanic identity as defence mechanism against xianity. It was called "Spiritual Satanism", however it never claimed it was "devil worship".

HP Maxine chose the unique title "Spiritual Satanism" to differentiate itself from other types of Satanism that were based in Christianity. The JoS site always said that "Spiritual Satanism" is just a name for Ancient Paganism. It always was Pagan-based, not Christian-based. The JoS site always claimed that Satan and the Demons are no one else than our ancient Pagan Gods. It said Satan is the Sumerian God Enki multiple times.

That site still exists and you can read it. I have even provided excerpts from the Old Site where it clearly explains that. Here it is again:

Why is it so hard to understand that Zeus (Perun in Slavic - my people) is another name for Satan? If you had actually done research by simply reading the website you would have known this easily, especially if you are one of those people from 2010 that Aquarius mentioned. Another reason for the change is the clear distinction of ourselves from the fake Satanists that repeat the enemy lies about our Gods.

Even of Satan weren't Zeus, I'm pretty sure nobody here who read and knew what the JoS teaches would have a major problem with it because Zeus would still be a God on our side. I wouldn't even mind if it was changed to "Temple of Thoth" or "Temple of Athena" because both were ancient Gods on our side. The only reason one would react this way (like "I don't know Zeus and I don't want to know him at all") would be if one is a Christian "Satanist". Well, you are mistaken here, and you refuse to go through the material that has been presented to you as a resource to reflect on indicates that either you lack the mental capacity to consider that things do evolve, or that you are dishonest in your inquiry. That's not how it ever worked in the history of JoS. The clergy always made controversial decisions without asking anyone.

And even if we did do elections, a person like you who literally said that Satan is a fallen angel wouldn't be allowed to vote because the JoS specifically said it doesn't want to be associated with your Christian version of Satanism.

I have to say, these threads often turn into cesspools of circlejerking and making fun of people instead of giving actual resources on how to understand the changes and what led to them. Directing people to the appropriate Sermons instead of being inconsiderate and fishing for reactions (however humorous it may be) should be a standard. Forum members should not be here to make fun of others but to promote collective advancement; Guardian Blitzkreig's behavior is exemplary in situations like this, do well to learn from him. Either they will be temporarily discouraged, then hit ToZ AND THEN return, acknowledging they had been wrong, OR find another 'religion' which will sate their appetite for 'dharkness'.

The name Devil appears for the first time in history in the New Testament, where it is associated with the Temple of Zeus in Pergamum, which is the Temple of the Devil/Satan in the Apocalypse of John. so it is clear that the enemy knew even then that Satan/Devil was associated with the pagan gods of the nations, and thus the name Satan spread as the enemy of Judeo-Christianity. Then, from the end of the Middle Ages, Anti-Christian Satanism appeared from the Christians themselves, who were so oppressed that they simply wanted to react and play evil and dark. Yes. The point is that both the JoS site and the ToZ said Satan is a Pagan God and not a stereotypical "dark" one. Those guys are complaining because they follow the mainstream version of "Satanism".

It's crazy how so many people who had the wrong idea of "Satan" were lurking in the JoS groups and forums all those years just because the name "Satan" was in the name of the organization. Nobody noticed them. They either stayed silent or were posting simple things, not one of them read the site and they just assumed it was for them. This change of the name to ToZ brought all of them out of the woodwork and they are now coming to us demanding that the name be changed back.

I am sure if the name was changed to Temple of Enki they would react in the same way.
