Recently, I had a very challenging week. Literally every day I had tasks and responsibilities that drained my attention and energy to the point that I couldn't focus at all in my meditations and rituals. I couldn't even enter a trance, as my mind wouldn't settle. That's an awful state to be in, both for meditation and for productivity.
If you feel like your mind is constantly clouded and you can't think clearly, then you're constantly in fight or flight mode. That is to say that your brain is operating in the high Beta brainwave pattern of survival. Something is threatening your social standing, your literal survival if your source of income is threatened, a loved one is sick, etc., and that is all you can think about. And therein lies the problem. You cannot think clearly in fight or flight.
You need to be able to self-regulate at will, and I recently learned a very easy way to do that.
All you need to do is sit comfortably and listen, or rather, hear. You need to hear your surroundings without listening, without paying attention to what the sounds in your environment actually are, without putting names to them. Just hear. The same goes for any thoughts that arise during this; just let them play in the background without judging them. You can even see your thoughts as just a part of the noise around you. Easy, right? No visualizations, no feeling of mental falling, just passive reception.
You will quickly notice that your environment is actually very loud. You will hear all the background noise that is drowned out by your thoughts and endless worries, and most of the time it sounds just like TV static or electrical buzzing. Let all your thoughts get drowned out in this buzzing and let them go completely. You should reach a point where you're not even aware of yourself anymore, like you've forgotten that you're even doing this. This isn't hard to achieve at all and is actually necessary for deep trance to occur.
The key thing is that you will get all your attention back, which will bring you great and immediate relief. This is important to do after coming home from work, for example, and especially before theurgical works like God rituals.
How insulting is it to a God to contact them through ritual, only for you to mentally be thinking about what happened during your day or what's going to happen in tomorrow's meeting? If you're going to hold a conversation, it demands all of your attention, right? Certainly, if that conversation is with a God.
This is just a primer; it will get you in a deep Alpha state, but for actual trance, you will need to apply the techniques available on the ToZ website. However, with all of your attention on you, it will be much easier to apply them successfully.
