Halloween, Samhain, Genesia: Rites and Rituals (2026)

AvatarHigh Priestess Lydia Coventina4 min to read

Hello Zevist Family :)

Tomorrow night is Halloween, also known as Samhain, Genesia. Recently, our High Priest Zevios Metathronos has gifted us with something very necessary:

Rites for each of our sacred Zevist Holidays.

No longer do we wonder what to do, or how to properly honor our Gods. No longer do we try to do something important for our souls, but uncertain exactly what it is that we should do. No longer do members have to ask which God is honored on what holiday.

Now, all 8 Holidays have full rites written out. They are explained in depth, with Rituals and Festival Psalms, full instructions, the Gods that are honored, and other celebrations we can do.

On a main page we have The Zevist Calendar: The 8 Festivals of the Year. This gives an overview with information about the Festivals, and near the bottom are the links for each of our 8 yearly festivals.

This Samhain is the first Zevist Holiday where we have these Rites explained in full in the page for Samhain/Genesia. The Gods honored are Persephone (Ereshkigal), Pluton (Osiris, Hades), and Anubis. There is also a Festival Psalm of Genesia consisting of 72 passages, to be performed in sections throughout the night, all instructed on the page for Genesia.

The full page is an estimated 93 minutes to read, fortunately our new Temple of Zeus redesigned website keeps track of your page exactly where you left off in case you are unable to finish reading it all in one session, if you are logged into your account. Simply log into your account using the same password as for these forums, go to the page again (this is kept in the reading history in your account) and click the link at the top of the page to resume where you left off.

And of course those in countries where this Holiday is happily celebrated with trick-or-treater’s knocking on your door, you might want to delay the rituals until an hour you know you have more privacy. But do not think you are to shun the usual celebrations! Written in the page, there is a time during the night where we are meant to go out and celebrate with others. We do not hide away in our homes with the lights out pretending we are not home. Zevism is about celebrating life and being integrated into our community and society. Hand out the candy for the cute children in costumes, enjoy their happiness, and manage the Rites as well. That’s life, there are many things to juggle and manage.

For this Holiday in particular, the Rituals are to be done at specific times, the first beginning at sundown. As sundown is based on your location in the world, we might not be able to organize the rituals as usual in Vultus Templorum Temple Room. We will do the best we can, and let’s keep the entire day and night for all locations to be about this Holiday in VT chat. You can write in the chat when you are beginning, and perhaps sync up with others for at least one of the rituals or a segment of the Psalm.

If any of you cannot participate on the night of Samhain, it is written in the main Zevist Calendar page that you can honor the festival on any other night close to it. If the hours of the rituals do not work for you, you can also adjust those accordingly, perhaps a few hours earlier or later than what is indicated.

If you cannot perform all 3 Rituals plus the Festival Psalm, then select 1 or 2 to perform. This is the first year we have this holiday in full, next year you will have more experience; 10 years from now you will be an expert at this and it can be easily managed. Don’t get stressed out, even just performing one ritual will honor this holiday.

Read the page about Samhain/Genesia now so you can be prepared for tomorrow night, and ask any questions to this thread or in VT chat!

The veil is thin, the dead are near, and the Zevist doesn't fear this: he approaches it with reverence, with knowledge, and with the understanding that death is a passage and not an end.

Happy Halloween!

Happy Samhain and thank you Milady! ToZ rituals page for Botu-Wadjet wouldn’t load last night when I got home, so can I make it up today?

Veni, Vidi, Viki and Above All Keep the Flame, for Lady Vesta is the fire, and she keeps all those that keep Her.

You can, or you can make it up after Samhain if you think it would be best to rest up today to prepare for tomorrow :)

Thank you Blessed Milady High Priestess!

A Samhain miracle has occurred too, my IRL Zevist friend is living with me now the Gods came forth and made it so! He gets to share his first authentic Denmark organic mead with me tomorrow for my yearly Samhain Libation!

I drink only the finest of mead the pure old world stuff, four or five times a year on our most Holy Days. Other than that I only very very rarely drink

Veni, Vidi, Viki and Above All Keep the Flame, for Lady Vesta is the fire, and she keeps all those that keep Her.

Thank you High Priestess and a happy Genesia to all

De vez en cuando digo mi opinion. A veces puedo equivocarme, pero siempre es con buena intencion.

As I was reading the page on Genesia, I remembered something. In our African Culture, the month of November, people do not marry, it's said to be a month to consult the Spirit and talk to the ancestors. There are parallels here.

Thank you so much High Priestess Lydia and High Priest Zevios Metathronos for this amazing gift. Question: if the moon is void of course during the time of sunset, should I perform the ritual at that time or wait for the VoC to end later in the night?

Thank you for asking this, other members might also be wondering. You can perform the ritual during the VoC because other members will be starting before the VoC :)

Thank you, High Priestess Lydia, and Happy Samhain everybody! It's already the 31st here in my part of the world, so I can say it earnestly.

With this marking the first year since we've had full, official Rites, it's natural that a lot of people won't be prepared, or that all things may not go entirely according to plan. That is okay! As High Priestess says, as the years go by, these things will hopefully become as second natures. Just think of all the traditions that inherently come with the Yule season. In time, these things will become normalized. Engage with things as comes natural and enjoy the day with your loved ones.

Of course, a massive thanks to High Priest Zevios for his hard work in writing and formalizing everything he has for these holidays. These are some of the most massive, in-depth of pages and rightfully so.

I pray you all have an enjoyable (and hopefully spooky) Halloween.

Thank you High Priestess Lydia, and High Priest Zevios for making this possible!

Thank you for organizing this and also including many helpful tips and context. I will be joining HPS on her scheduled ritual.

It is an exciting time where we are restarting organized Holiday practices through the Temple. This is a milestone for humanity, believe it or not.

#36

Have a great Genesia everyone!

Thank you High Priest and High Priestess for your work !

The Zevist who loves the masks and the horror films keeps them, and takes off the one mask that was made to insult his God. Costumes, yes; mockery of the Gods, no. The distinction is the whole of the matter, and it isn't hard.

Although not a central part of this festivity originally, here are some spooky movies I recommend this year:

Hokum (2026) - Irish horror movie about ghosts, folklore and murder mysteries.
Disturbing factor: Lighter, for sensitive people who still want to enjoy a spooky movie.

Exhuma (2024) - Korean horror movie involving Shamanism and exorcism.
Disturbing factor: Moderate, for people with low to moderate tolerance for heavy scenes.

Obsession (2025) - American movie involving lust obsession and magick. Better one of this list as a movie and acting.
Disturbing factor: High, the heavier one on this list with some but not too much gore.

Past recs: Oddity (2024) - Irish film about magic for revenge, not too heavy imo. Noroi (2005) - Found footage about curse and exorcism rituals.

Another lighter alternative (PG-13): Practical Magic (1998) - romance with some spooky vibes and witchcraft themes. I haven't watched the 2026 sequel yet but I've heard it's good.

Happy Genesia!🎃🎉

Happy Samhain HPS Lydia and to all! 😃

I will probably do one ritual only at this time. But still excited to do it at night.

Also thanks to HP Zevios for these rituals. 🙏

Hail Zeus!
