Unable to sleep (very short sleep)

Hello,

I have been unable to sleep properly for the past 2 weeks or so. I go to bed, only to wake up after 3/4/5 hours of sleep. Last week I've been wide awake after this and I've been unable to sleep again for some time, twisting and turning in my bed.
I am not waking up at the same time every time either (I checked).
Nor is loud noise the cause (I wear earplugs).

I feel a little tired after getting up finally but other than that I feel wide awake (mostly) for some reason. I think Im probably just running around on adrenalin at this point ...

If anyone has any tips on how to sleep through / more than 3 hours, its highly appreciated.
 
What helped me is listening to calm piano music with rain in the background. Like white noise.

Also, why don't you try and find out during a trance? Perhaps there's a bigger issue than it seems?
 
Do you actually feel tired? You didn't specify because it might be obvious that if one hadn't rested properly for so long they would surely be tired, but exercise might help. If you have the strength, a good hour and a half of exercise a few hours before going to sleep will knock most people out for the whole night.

Try to stay away from any sources of light as well, not just screens. Some people find it very useful to have the natural sunlight in their rooms(so lights in their room are turned off) slowly fade as the sun sets, that seems to really cue the brain for sleep.

It could be that your body is returning to it's natural sleep pattern.

Humans are actually bi-phasic sleepers where sleep is seperated into two segmants instead of one.

I too wake up after 3-4 hours asleep and then find myself unable to fall back asleep, during these moments the best thing to do is to avoid artificial light such as a cell phone or computer screen(anything LED). The process in which the body naturally wakes up is through the breakdown of melotonin by blue like through the eye-lids.

The sun contains mostly blue light and it's through this mechanism that our ancestors bodies would fully wake up in the morning.

If you wake up and want light for something(Journaling, meditating, whatever) use a candle light instead of artificial light. Also, keep the candle light at chest height or below, having a source of light above your head for some people can mimick the sun(wakefullness).

If you do the above, you'll likely find yourself getting tired and falling back asleep within 1-3 hours.

I always wake up after 3-4 hours then fall back asleep after an hour or two. For a long time I couldn't fall back asleep but then I realized it's because I'm tricking my body into thinking it was morning with the artificial blue light telling my body it's morning.

Yes I actually am tired when I go to sleep.

I noticed the screens issue over a year ago. I mostly only use candlelight in the evenings because of it.

I tried some of the household options to help me sleep better (milk and honey, valerian and lavender essential oil on a tissue all at once) and even though I wasn't wide awake this time, I still woke up in the middle of the night.

I've had a habit in the past of not sleeping enough (about 6h a night) and it takes some time to get adjusted to a proper sleep cycle.

I also went over the question if I am not too stressed, but this issue started before my busy stressfull week so I don't think that that is a major cause either but it prob does play a role.

Also, yes I did some exercise during this period as well. Still woke up wide awake that same night.
 
Exercising shortly before bed can actually make one stay up later because the body is 'alert'. Exercising is best done during the morning and afternoon. Evening training has the potential to lengthen the time needed to get to sleep. It is also noteworthy that this depends on the type of training done and the type of person in question, but also how late into the evening the training is done.

What initially came to me at first was that maybe there is a planetary transit going on. And now when I think about this again, nutrition and tcm patterns related to sleep come to mind. Something to research, I suppose.

I wasnt exercising late at night, no. Last time was in the afternoon.

Ill check the transit. Im going to try sleeping early today. Way earlier than usual. If I wake up again at least I hopefully have gotten a little better sleep.
Spend most of the afternoon outside too.
 

Are you watching tv or anything of the sorts in your bedroom? Its a bad habit to do anything but sleeping in your bedroom, so try to everything else in a different room. This will give your brain a sign that when you enter that room it is time to sleep. Also having a set time to go to bed can help.

Try to do away with any and all stress, get plenty of exercise, and make certain you get in all the nutrients / vitamins that your body needs in every day.

One other thing i have been talking about regularly is earthing / grounding, this can be extremely beneficial especially for sleeping. So try to get skin to earth contact on a daily basis, the more skin contact and the longer you do it, the better the effect. Also make sure that you get at least 30 minutes of sunlight every day, if it is cloudy out, go outside for longer because the sun will still reach you.
 
I found some acupressure wristbands that you're supposed to wear whilst sleeping thatd help with it. Theyre supposed to press upon Shenmen C7 on the wrist.

I haven't yet looked upon this and what it actually does but if anyone sees fault with this, let me know.
 

As you're falling asleep, or just after you wake up, do you feel tiny muscle twitches? Or a feeling of pressure in one of your limbs? This can indicate problems circulating energy or a blockage in a minor chakra or energy pathway, which can interfere with sleep. I had problems with this a few years ago. I do remember having minor twitches but last week was also different and tiring and I did sleep more.

Ive been trying to go back to yoga too. I was not doing it for a while (too much of the same, I got bored and trouble with staying on schedule).


Anyway didn't sleep well last night cuz menstrual pains (not related to this topic). I was glad to at least be able to get some shuteye after drinking a cup of raspberry leaf tea and a dose of valerian. Guess Ill be drinking tea for the rest of the day.

Ive only seen this just now.

It turned out that I was having way too much stress and that I couldn't sleep because of that. Eventually it started to affect my ability to think.
I couldn't find the words needed to make clear and accurate responses no matter how hard I tried.

I am not used to feeling rested so its been a struggle, to get enough rest, but I can sleep more now without waking up in the middle of the night so theres a plus.

Took a really long time though.

I don't know if itd be helpful to just run over things once, to see if there is anything that can be done or improved at all.
Part of it would probably be breaking certain habits ... or improving habits.

Good to hear that you are doing somewhat better sis, still if you are able to do a booking for the services of centralforce i would do it. He could give you insight on things that you have never thought of, besides it would be more impactful to hear someone say it opposed to reading a random comment.

Shenmen 7 is really what helps a lot to sleep, here is a page for this https://www.acupuncture-points.org/heart-7.html from this page you might come to other pages that are linked through patterns that cause sleep problems, such as heart yin deficiency to learn more about it and what can cause this. A lot of stress can damage Yin, and Yin is what provides good rest. Blood is also a Yin matter and if blood is stagnant or deficient it might break sleep too. To needle Shenmen is very hurt, better be done by a skilled specialist.
