Strange feeling when in trance

Hello,
I have wondered about this for a long time & perhaps someone can give insight?
When I was a kid from memory I believe I would astral project & often I would "wake" into the first dimension or layer that we enter when we are asleep. I always thought it was a dream but it was so strange, the feeling I mean. Since practicing meditation I have re-experienced this feeling or sensation when I enter into trance state. I can describe it as feeling infinitely thin and then infinitely large & they switch off and neither feel very pleasant. What does this mean?? I am wondering if I am just in a trance and the mind can have control over what one feels but because I was young firstly experiencing this perhaps I have programmed myself to feel this whenever I enter that state? It makes it difficult to focus on the goal of the meditation like projecting energy. Has anybody else felt this?
