I have always thought the idea of having a literal,physical Satanic temple/church/grotto/hall would be a great step forward for us. That being said, the actual attainment of the land and building would be the LEAST of our troubles involved in such a venture.
I live in the Detroit area and there are vacant buildings (homes, store fronts, medium sized business buildings and even old xtain churches!) that can be bought very cheaply, often just for back taxes. If even 3-4 folks put in a few hundred each, I have no doubt that we could find an a suitable location.
The problems would arise right after the acquiring of the land, to wit: 1. Rehabbing the property and bringing it up to code. 2. Someone having to be on the property at all times for security reasons (personally, I work 9 - 5 and care for an elderly parent so even if I had no other life, that would pretty much exclude me) 3. Although utility bills could be kept down by only leaving 1 or 2 lights on at a time and keeping the heat index low, they would still add up to a significant expense for working class folks. 4. Those formally affiliated w/ the church/temple would, of course, be subject to harassment and vilification (although that would most likely die down over time)
Perhaps using some sort of rental property would work because that would largely eliminate problems 1 and 2. Also, by law, a landlord CANNOT turn down someone based on their religious affiliation. Moreover, some rentals come w/ utility agreements and any conscientious landlord would do his best to prevent vandalism and general hooliganism around his property, so problems 3 and 4 could be alleviated a bit as well.

I didn't know that about Detroit. I'd personally like to go for an area more open to the occult and spirituality to start off with, taking the path of least resistance in the beginning seams the most fruitful. Also, doing such a thing like constructing a physical location for us to gather would actually build a name for ourselves. With enough physical locations our religion could be excepted as a staying and powerful force rather than a fad some net-cult.
It is Satan's will that his people stand together in unity, if he so desires temples to be constructed it shall be done. I know something epic is needed from his people though.
