This is a rare case but I mentioned it for the sake of safety. By open its not meant completely unobstructed, its meant that you have done your meditations and worked a bit on empowering the chakras. Thats it. You will feel the energy of your chakras. Hatha Yoga opens the chakras and energetical pathways, and Kundalini yoga too. Kundalini yoga is a bit more advanced and more specific. But the thing is, the meditations are in order in the JoS. I think its a very rare occassion of the Kundalin to shoot some more energy up, so you can go with it. DO NOT STOP OR BACKTRACK YOUR ADVANCEMENT FOR ANYONE, EVER. IF ITS POSITIVE TO YOU, YOU DO IT AND ASK NOBODY FOR DETAILS. YOUR OWN GUT HAS A HEAVIER SAY THAN ME IN YOUR LIFE.
If you experiance positive effects, the chakras are open. Or else you would feel unpleasant and blocked, which is a rare case but still happens. When your chakras are open, you will most probably feel some little surges, if you tune in. Or a lot more later on.

I came across a post where hoodedcobra was saying that kundalini yoga isnt a good idea if the chakras arent open and that the kundalini shoots energy up the spine that finds closed chakras and could be a problem. the thing is that i dont know if my chakras are open. i have these sprirtual blocks that i still havent gotten rid of and its hard to tell if my chakras are open. but the thing that got me confused is that i was told that kundalini yoga opens chakras and empowers them. i recently got this book on kundalini yoga to help with my advancing and i tried it out and lately i been getting a lot of positive effects. but im just double checking and i want to know if i should continue the kundalini yoga or not if my chakras arent open?
