I require help- bizzare pendulum situation

My old message got chewed up by Yahoo somehow so here it is again:
Basically, I tried figuring out my guardian demon's name through the pendulum method.  I didn't even get past the first question which was "How many letters are in your name" because the pendulum just did not move.  So then I asked a bunch of trivial stuff like what I had for dinner, calculus, etc. which showed that the pendulum does indeed work.  Then I asked "Do I have a guardian demon?"and the pendulum moved no which was confusing cuz I thought everyone has a demon.  Then I asked "Am I a demon" as a joke and the pendulum moved yes.  
What's happening here???
