As in the subject, last week, Buddhist monks of the Gandantegchinlen monastery(currently the biggest one in Mongolia), were convicted of raping a 13 year old disciple. The mother of the boy went to the police after discovering blood stains on the underwear of her son. The boy himself stated that each night, his seniors would insert something wet in his bum and whisper to him that if he wants to go to India (center of buddhism, where the best disciples are sent to become monks), he has to obey. The news has spread very rapidly on social media such as Facebook and Twitter, to which people are reacting with anger and grief. The monks themselves state that it's slander and that the mother of the victim is slandering them with purpose because she is a follower of tengrism and an alcoholic, which infuriates people even further. Most people believe that sexual abuse in the monasteries has been ongoing for many years and that the 13 year old boy is not the only victim.
