I am native american, yet i am a fan of japonese literature.  Im an otaku which is japonese for a fan of anime/manga. I have noticed several manga which have a "Satan" or "Daemon" character, and really they arent that bad. Granted they are pure fiction meant to be enjoyed and not meant to portray a being just a characture of a personality trait.OK, All that set aside i find the japonese view on demons interesting. They are often upbeat and positive with many of the "satan" protecting the weak, the young and the women. It definitely lacks a strong xian view. As far as i can tell that region just doesnt take xianity very seriously. Even when they portray a christian of some sort they are very reserved. So not all demonic stories are anti-christian horror flicks.

Actually don't call yourself an "otaku" because it's an insult in Japan. It's actually very insulting. From Urban Dictionary:
"Otaku is the honorific word of Taku (home). 
Otaku is extremely negative in meaning as it is used to refer to someone who stays at home all the time and doesn't have a life (no social life, no love life, etc) 

Usually an otaku person has nothing better to do with their life so they pass the time by watching anime, playing videogames, surfing the internet (otaku is also used to refer to a nerd/hacker/programmer). 

In the Western culture, people confuse otaku to be something positive like "Guru". If you think about it, it's not really good to be called a guru if it means you are a total loser who can't socialize with other people except through the Internet. 

Other Japanese words which have been confused by Westerners also include but not limited to: Anime, Manga, etcotaku no jinsei ha yabai na! (it sucks to live the life of an otaku!)"

That being said, I often did wonder this same thing. In different Japanese manga, and their anime counterparts, Demons are definatly portrayed in a different light than all this stupid Western shit. It sure SEEMS like they have a more realistic grasp on Spiritual Satanism, and it SEEMS that they dont have the same kind of restrictions to print those views. One of these days I'll visit.

anyway yeah, man I even saw one anime where a hero was trying to slay a demon king only to find that she was a nice um, *cough* curvy woman. She explained to him that the human government was making demons look evil just to get their land's resources. They are definitely really laid back on xianity.

I hardly got a social life... also stay at home a lot to. I got no love life either, but I do know one thing, I'm not no fucking loser... And anyone who thinks so can suck my fucking dick. Hail Satan? 
Also, last but not least, what makes you a LOSER in this life is not if you have a 'social' life or how 'cool you are' its if you sit on your ass not trying to work for your spiritual freedom, just being a slave, not doing ANYTHING at all to break free from the spiritual shackles forged for you (like most people, even those WITH a social life). That's what makes you a loser. Me on the other hand, I'm trying, and I'll continue to try, DESPITE the odds set against me at the moment (which is a lot), and when it comes to knowing I don't stand a chance, I will go out FIGHTING these spirits that are harassing me and hopefully take one of them with me in the process, considering if I fail or not... I know what I'm capable of and just how far my potential goes, which is the reason why they won't allow me to reach it. They fear me, and knowing that, puts a smile on my face...

Guys, these were the urban dictionary's words not mine. All I did is posted it here to clarify it because there are many Western people who use Japanese words without understanding their meaning so they end up looking like fools to Japanese people. Another example is I see from time to time in this group people who have the username "Ronin". They think it means an ultra-cool Samurai or something (because these people like to play with katanas and things like that) but all it means is a school dropout. Again it's used as an insult in Japan, not as something positive.

Ronin is a samurai with out a lord. A wandering swordsman. They were always treated with mixed feelings because they had no lord so many turned to crime. They were treated ok by some due to being held by the way of the sword. Though not all followed the way and just used a blade as a weapon. They use it as an insult in japan because of its history. A school drop out is equivalent to the Ronin who wandered. I myself enjoy martial arts and a katana is a weapon i think is both beautiful and graceful. Sadly though many people make fun of others for loving blades as much as i do because they think of nerdy or werido. I love them for no good reason and just have a deep connection to them. Oh well . As for being an otaku. When used in the positive way, western,  it means anime/manga enthusiast. I am like that. In the bad, used as an insult, it means freak who likes anime manga. Calling yourself one in a positive light is fine and if others use the bad term so what. Do you need their praise? No you don't.

Lmao, that's funny you bring that up... Makes me think of that Samurai character in the new Mortal Kombat, his name is Ronin as well... Pretty popular character too. That's kind of funny when you think about it. Hehe.

The Japanese word "Ronin" means a samurai without a master. Either the samurai killed the master, or the master died, but either way the samurai is rogue. There's another Japanese word's meaning, and it is not *cool*, in fact it is an insult to ancient Japanese customs.

Yeah and also a relationship doesn't ensure more happiness either. My friends always tease me for never having a girlfriend, I always explain to them that it isn't for any reason other than the fact that I don't want one. I can count like 4 or 5 girls in my life that had an affection for me, I turned down like 2 of them and the others I just avoided, mostly because I knew their personality. I can just read people, all it takes is like a couple minutes with someone for me to read them like a book, and I don't wanna read those books again. To sum it up, if you are content with not having a social life or love life, then stay like that, there is nothing wrong with it.

It's also used to refer to husbands who have been thrown out of their houses by their wives and similar things.

Oh I see. The examples of the meaning of the word establish it as basically a person who walks out on or is cast out of a higher order. Even if it is only to be used as a school dropout or leaving husband, this seems like the root of the words full meaning. That is where people get their confusion from as the meaning of the word being a rogue samurai is archaic among Japanese culture seeing as samurai don't really exist anymore.

I care how they use their words why? Hell most words have more then meaning to begin with. All the person uses when they say that is common vernacular which always trumps everything due to common vernacular turn into a new meaning or new word all together. Either by becoming a new word itself, changing the old one, and or adding a new definition of said word. Granted it is western common vernacular by last i check i don't leave in the east so i couldn't care less. I care if i see myself as a fool. If others call me a fool their words are nothing more then dust to me.
