Yoga routine for children

Greetings everyone,

I've got a new workout routine since my older child decided not to train at the gym with his mother and sibling and join me at home instead. As thrilled as I am about it, I had to do quite a lot of research on what's the appropriate amount and type of exercise for his age and that was the easy part.

I do an hour of yoga followed by an hour of my own systema/kung fu mix or just some tai chi/chi gong depending on how I feel that day.

For him I devised a self defence program with the elements of different martial arts that I find most practical and easily applicable for a child his size and age. What I'm not so sure about is how to formulate the yoga part of his workout. I suppose half an hour is enough but which asanas are best for a ten year old and which breathing exercises if any at all. If someone has any experience with yoga for children please tell me how we should do this.

Thank you for replying. How about breathing? What do you think is safe for a young body?

Guess we'll see how it goes and hopefully advance together getting in ever better shape in every way.

I used to do breath of fire as a child, age 5 or 6 and up, along with another young child. It always gave us a boost of energy. I continued it through my teens too. Not daily, only occasionally. It never harmed me (that I know of, anyway).

But the cautious side of me wants to say it possibly isn't good for all children. Alternate nostril breathing is probably fine. But never high rounds, only for a few rounds. I only did BoF for like 20 seconds max as a child.
