Yoga question.

For newbies I would perform these separately. Combining asanas (physical postures) and pranayama (breathing exercises) is very powerful and advanced.

Other Breathing Exercises work well too, it depends on the asana you are doing, and the effects or outcome you are looking for. Also combining this with the different locks, can give a range of different effects from the one asana. The Breathing Exercises and Locks can direct the energy in different ways, and the asana will also control this to an extent (depending one what position it is at least). Try just practice with this, and experiment with what works for you.
