That is absolutely ridiculous! I go to a christian school, they make everyone do a 20-minute devotion in the mornings and we have a Chapel service once a fortnight, but they still show respect to the many non-believers that go to the school, and we show respect back. They don't force us to pray or anything like that.
Forcing a student to say a pledge of allegiance to a christian flag is stupid, in my opinion. Is it THE pledge of allegiance or just some xian bullshit? The other posters are right, there isn't much that he can do, besides refuse to comply with their rules, but that will just lead to conflict. If he conducts himself in a mature and respectful way, in time the teachers (or whoever) may allow him to sit it out or something. He could write a letter (needs to be persuasive, but polite) to try and convince them that forcing christian beliefs on people is wrong and that it'd be more effective to let people find their own path in their own way blah blah blah and tell them what they want to hear. Or just get his mum to write a letter forbidding him to be involved in it or something like that lol.
