why are there Egyptian obelisk in this city?

i cant figure out why there are Egyptian obelisk in the middle of NYC there are 3 of them all perfectly lined up in the middle of Manhattan (i heard one was shipped to London i stand to be corrected ) i am from new York city i am born and raised there and i am scared for the people i love i see all these horrible things about how the sea level is gonna rise and flood NYC and i have people i really care about that live there is this a possibility do the Egyptian obelisk protect this city i am really confused
