what is a soul mate exactly

i assume a soul mate is a person that you have married in past life and had made a promise to be together again or something like that. its just an assumption.

Its all about energy signatures from this or past lifes.. the soul is attaching knowledge, relations to others and emotions.

So ur soulmate can be a previous friend, gf/bf or relatives - those who were important for u in that physical life.

Meaning ur close ones today if with luck u can meet them again after re incarnation

A soul mate is a term that is misused often, esp in love and relationships. A SoulMate could be a lover, spouse, best friend, relative or even your worst enemy. The way someone will know if they are connected to their SoulMate would be a sign of 'have I seen you before'
