What does the number 3 mean in the occult?

I always hear the saying misfortune comes in threes, that's even a Native American saying here in South Dakota. What exactly does the number three mean? I've been seeing it a lot lately...

Balance in Sacred Geometry.

By *my own* understanding, this have to do with the planet Saturn and the Earth element.

Saturn, as Earth element, have to do with balance, patient, ability of judgement etc. And Saturn is very associated to difficult and bad luck.

Saturn's square also is 3x3.

One meaning is saturn, which is symbolic of the base chakra. I recommend spending time empowering your base chakra.
