Struggling to meditate while living at student dormitory

AvatarAscended6662 min to read

Greetings fellow Zevists!

I am currently mostly living at a student dorm because I can't afford rent at an apartment and I was wondering if someone had some advice on meditating well when you have little to no privacy. This is my third year living mostly in those conditions, I honestly am a little bit ashamed that I didn't reach for help sooner since I had to go through this the hard way. I only have the time to meditate when my roommates are out or right before going to sleep (I know it isn't good right before sleep but I had no choice most of the time).

I always managed to at least do aura cleaning, aura of protection and void but unfortunately almost no chakra work. Also, I couldn't do god rituals at the dorm (I was most disappointed about this situation) but I at least managed to thank the gods pretty frequently in my mind that I am grateful for them and what I can at least do. The only time I can do the rituals is on the weekends or vacations when I got home. My roommates are alright and all but I do not want to attract anyone's attention while I meditate, it is best they think I'm asleep since I mostly meditate on my back. I also struggle to meditate in the morning but I think this is because of my ignorance.

I am open to read every kind of response and opinion, I am seeking improvement despite my unfortunate conditions and I know some people have it worse so I don't wanna whine about it. Please tell me what can I do to improve my condition, maybe some kind of working to achieve privacy more easily in the near future. I hope in the coming year or two I will be able to find a nice job in the field I am studying so I can afford renting an apartment.

This is actually my first post even though I've been dedicated for a couple of years (I've been only lurking) so I am really glad I took this step forward. Feel free to ask me if I skipped any details and may everyone have privacy and a good spiritual life.

Hail Zeus! Hail the great Gods!

First of all, I want to thank you for reaching out to us. Do not feel ashamed of asking for advice. It is not a failure, but rather an act of bravery.

Even in a difficult situation, you have been maintaining your practice despite having limited privacy for three years, and that already demonstrates commitment and perseverance.

Please, try to refer to this thread by High Priest Zevios Metathronos, Dealing With The External World As A Zevist, as it applies directly to your situation as well.

I would also encourage you to look at your circumstances as an opportunity to employ all your ingenuity and creativity in finding ways to carve out moments for yourself. It is certainly difficult and demanding; I have been through similar situations myself, so I understand this quite well. However, these are precisely the kinds of circumstances that challenge us to create the conditions we need through our own resourcefulness, a little cleverness, and creativity. Rather than waiting for the right conditions to appear, we learn to find ways to make them happen.

As for your chakra work, I can suggest a couple of practical approaches. The chakra rotation meditation, while inhaling the energy in the colour corresponding to the chakra you are working on, is an excellent practice that does not require any vibration. It can therefore be performed very discreetly, without drawing attention.

To make this chakra meditation routine more strong, you could also consider performing the full meditation only on the chakra of the day. This meditation requires vibration, but it is relatively short and can be completed in approximately five or six minutes. You might find these few minutes by stepping away from the dormitory for a while, spending a little longer in the shower, or getting up early in the morning.

You mentioned that you do not meditate in the morning. However, if you think this could be a suitable time to enjoy greater privacy, I would encourage you to consider waking up a little earlier and beginning your day with meditation. Starting your morning in a meditative state can be particularly helpful, and it may offer you an opportunity that is otherwise difficult to find throughout the day.

The circumstances you are currently facing are temporary, and they will not remain this way forever. Do your best with what you have available to you, make the most of every opportunity, and keep moving forward. Even small efforts matter, and every step you take contributes to your progress.

Thank you so much for the advice and indeed waking up a bit earlier to meditate would be a great idea!
I agree that circumstances are temporary and this is a great opportunity to be creative as you said, thank you and be blessed.

Why can't you meditate in the mornings or make noise? There is no big deal in your roommates hearing you meditate. This issue might be more so your confidence then anything else.

Ask yourself do your roommates watch tv, listen to music, speak or ever make a single noise? You don't need to discuss your beliefs with anyone and I strongly suggest you don't.

However, meditation both buddhist and transcendental are both studied in papers. Same with hatha yoga. Don't be afraid to vibrate mantras, meditate in silence or do yoga.

I would recommend slowly adding in mantras. This will climatize your roommates to it. For instance, start with Surya and build your aura. If anyone calls you on it, you can say your meditating with mantras. They will eventually be entrained by your aura and think nothing of it. Oh Joey likes to meditate ... whatever he'll be done soon.

The meditations will also make you stronger and then you can consult your inner teacher for further advice.

You are right, there is a confidence problem on my part that dragged me down. I have no excuses for times where I was scared to show people this side of mine. If I remain in this comfort zone there won't be any progress. Thank you for your response and have a blessed day!

Hello and welcome @Ascended666. Indeed yes as NG Valeonas shared there are meditations on the chakras that are done solely via visualization without having to vibrate power words. The EZ Chakra spin is another such example. which is a simple yet effective and powerful method to stimulate the chakras. You can work on any chakra only using visualization, although vibrations would be more powerful. In fact this will constitute great preparatory training and when you will eventually have more privacy, perhaps in 1-2 years or when you finish your current education efforts, you can then start vibrations after having built a lot of experience in visualization and focus. Generally I definitely recommend to read the entire meditation section, little by little whenever time allows you as there are hundreds of meditations and articles presented on the ToZ site altogether, you can search which ones can be done solely via focus and similar.

The God rituals also, you can vibrate the runes and recite the affirmations in your mind, you don't have to vibrate them loudly if you are not able to. Surely the biggest challenge here will be to remain awake as the God rituals generally take between 15-25 minutes, you can easily fall asleep during these if you will do them laying down and before sleep.

There is nothing to be ashamed of, this is part of life. These conditions are pretty normal in most lives, you must not take it so personally. Even rich people with families can be constantly surrounded by other people due to work. For an inordinately long time, I also and most people had to endure loss of personal space/privacy. Here's how one can deal with this:

1. Going to the park to meditate. A forest nearby, is great place to go and do Ritual.
2. Meditating in public transport with headphones on
3. Timing the schedules with the world around
4. Meditating in a library (people don't even notice). You can also study and write there.
5. Negotiate with room-mates your times. 4 to 6 for example; I have to be free. Why? Because I have duties and I do vipassana meditation. Stand your ground.

It's a bit hard but do-able. If you love the practice, nothing can stop you.

As I have stated before, I would do kundalini yoga sessions in a bathroom as well. There is no excuse for the person decided, and there are many for the person who is still challenged by determination.

It is an honor to receive advice from you High Priest! You are absolutely right, there is no excuse not to apply what everything you said and this is a great opportunity to raise my love for meditation and the gods!

Hello, and thank you for participating in our community now :)

In addition to the above advice, meditation is becoming more and more popular, among many people. It's actually trendy (not everywhere, but in many places). Perhaps you can ask your school directors if there is a room where you and others can go to for meditation. Point out the benefits that meditation gives to enhanced studies and mental capacities.

If there currently is no room, you can consider being the change and petition for a private space.

Thank you so so much High Priestess, it's an honor! This is really eye opening and I will definitely try to ask if there is any space for meditation at my school or even better, try to bring a change for the people that do this.

This is the targeted message.

Brother, welcome and you did a good thing to reach out. This is completely normal , and I have been in this situation years ago when I was at university. Take the advice you have been given, do your best. But most importantly this should motivate you and encourage you to work even harder so that once you are done with college, you get a job and rent your own apartment.

With time and with consistent mediation, life will gradually improve. We all have been there, just do your best and what's comfortable with you since you know your situation the best.

All the best with your studies. Take your education seriously, that's a life changing opportunity and soon things will be better for you.
