You should close your chakras if you are going to be in contact with other people that are negative. Sometimes it is better to just make sure your chakras are closed unless you are meditating, doing a working, or just sitting around after meditation. The thing is usually when you do pranayama you should do it before a meditation session. So a good example would be do 5-10 rounds of alternate nostril breath(stop if you feel tired), void meditation, aura and chakra cleansing, then finish by closing your chakras.
