Hello to all the members and priests,

I have studied some very useful material about Socrates, Plato, and others from your website. Thank you! I truly understand now how important these people were.

Today I was talking with my Muslim friend, and he said that Plato and Socrates were actually monotheists. He said that they spoke about the gods publicly, but that their underlying philosophy actually represented something different.

He argued that they never really proved the existence of the gods, but instead focused on a higher truth — the very thing that Muslims call Allah.

I’m honestly quite confused. I don’t know how to respond to him based on the material on your website.

Is there strong evidence showing that these three immortal messengers were actually pagan?

Or, at the very least, why does their philosophy represent polytheism and have no real connection to monotheism?

Yes, both Plato and Socrates worshipped the Gods; they were certainly not monotheists in the Abrahamic sense. This is well documented.

Although Plato speaks of a highest divine principle, the Good, or the Demiurge, he never reduces the Divine to a single exclusive God. On the contrary, he repeatedly speaks of the Gods in the plural, and even invokes individual Greek deities such as Pan, Apollo, and Asclepius, and incorporates sacrifices, prayers, temples, and festivals honoring different Gods into his ideal society.

Plato even records Socrates making a famous prayer to the Great God Pan, where he states, "Dear Pan, and all ye other Gods who haunt this place, grant me beauty in the inward soul, and may the outward and inward man be at one."

So there is plenty of evidence showing that Plato and Socrates were not monotheists, but instead Theophoric philosophers who deeply affirmed the existence, goodness, and worship of multiple Gods.

These Muslims are sophists, I once followed their discussions, and I’ve never seen so much verbal manipulation in my life. These people make all sorts of claimsl, for example, even from the perspective of abrahamic religions as a whole, they claim that adam was a muslim, as were moses and jesus who, according to their teachings, was never killed at all. These people are cunning, and they rewrite history to suit themselves, trying to avoid any inconvenient facts. Be on your guard around them. As for Socrates, read, for example, the Apology of Socrates, and you will see that Socrates worshiped many Gods, such as Eros for example

But Muslims say that using the word “Gods” was simply a way to avoid being rejected by the people around him, or something along those lines.

They argue that, in reality, he believed in only one God.

I’m really glad you sent this article too, because I actually had a question about this.

What exactly did you mean by saying that the Gods are expressions of Zeus? Does that mean that there is actually only one God, and that God is Zeus? This is the part I couldn’t quite understand...

If all the Gods are simply manifestations or expressions of Zeus, then why don’t we just call all of them Zeus and worship them under one name?
