sitting on my heels

I was just wondering if any of our older members have trouble sitting on their heels like I do and what you did about it.Though I have a steel shart down my left leg(motorcycles got to love em)I was wondering if it was important to be able to sit on my heels for some Yoga positions that require it.looking for any and all comments please.

I am young and I have trouble also.

At training we are required to sit in a position called "Seiza" which is basically Japanese for sitting on the heels. I find it helpful to fold one foot on top of the other while maintaining the position.

I also recommend a little stretching, like rotating your ankles for a few minutes if that is where the problem is. If it is a knee inflexibility issue, I would not recommend pushing it.

I do not not if the position is required but I tend to switch it out with the cross legged position :)

Yes, I have always had trouble with doing certain yoga positions exactly So I just do the positions as best as I can without injuring myself. When I was young, I had lack of flexibility due to not stretching enough for the running I was doing. Now I also have hardware in my body--left ankle: plate + 12 screws in 3 spots, one screw in left foot, 2 in the right.

U never want to FORCE a position in yoga, especially if ur body has been surgicially altered. That's how I was taught anyways, and it's worked out well for me.

<td val[/IMG]   Well my heels were killing me too, so I put a little pillow below them. I always meditate on my bed for comfort. There is no need for any pain while you're doing yoga or meditations, as pain is not a good omen. Just adding to this reply, a little tip about the pillow.

That's good to hear...and not all meditation traditions are designed for everyone...hence why its better for some to lie down...I know its better for me as I can focus more and fully leave my body for different purposes...the only time I am able to meditate whilst sitting up is when I have to quickly check in down there...Good luck and if you ever need any other advice or have concerns you can msg me.
