Scales - a poem? Kinda...

Those two plates always hanging in the air.
Always a little too far to the left.
A little too far to the right.
Where is the middle?
The precious in-between I seek to be.
I call into the night and I ask, "Who am I"?
The echoes that respond aren't always polite.
When your name doesn't sound right.
I know something wasn't right.
But I plunged anyway.
Oh the price of ignorance.
The price of imbalance.
A sick lullaby for the stupid and a nightmare for the sleepless.
Won't you guide me away from this?
Help me remember my name...
And stop the wild swing of scales.
These plates that hold my heart in suspension,
And my wings... unbind them.
