Hello. I am still new to meditations and I have a hard time staying awake. Clearing my mind is easy enough after a couple of minutes but I always find myself waking up 20-30 minutes later. If I try sitting up I just feel stiff and want to crack my fingers or my legs fall asleep and start tingling and its very distracting. Is there anything you would recommend me trying specifically to help me from falling asleep or any other advice to help? Thanks

Does this happen mostly in the morning after waking up, or even if you meditate throughout the day? I would generally suggest splashing some cold water in your face to wake up. Other than that you should try to focus while meditating. If you strongly focus on your meditation you should automatically stay awake. Maybe also try to get enough sleep (9hours if possible in your circumstances).

Hello!

You can try sitting in a chair. You don't have to cross your legs like a pretzel, you can have them like you would normally any other time. You can try resting your back for support on the chair, or not, and if it's able to regulate the angle, you can have it more leaning backwards or more straight up, test out and see what feels best for you.

For some exercises your back should be straight, but this is usually specified.
