Mandela effect , real or fake

Is the Mandela effect a real thing ?
For example I remember being thought in school that the kidneys are in the lower back , but if you Google it you'll see that they are actually in the rib cage under the lungs . There is a lot of misinformation about this and I'm wondering if it's a real thing or not .
