How many times I must repeat a working?
I heard there is more than the 40 days straight, like what is written in JOS.

For how long it takes depends a lot from your goal and power, but aside from this once you have done all your rep energies require time to work, sometimes could take weeks or months for them to manifest, and days will show you little changes.

Now how you decide if a work lastes for 40, 80, 120... Of course can depend from your will, major works can require more than 40 days. But let's say you are committing a money spell, you go for 40 and as time passes by you notice energies are not working, in that case you want go for more. Or if doesn't work it must be repeated and I tell you sometimes it's the best option.(You do 40 days than you wait another moment to repeating it)

This is related with when you started (Moon Phase, Void of Course, Planets Motions, and so on) that's first and foremost the pillar of your works, mess with these and you will hardly get something from it.
