Anubis N Ammyt

I made this little drawing while I was on a trip in the car. Anubis with Ammit.

And this got me thinking. Who really is Ammit? Because although he devours souls, I think I have read that he had a very helpful job towards Anubis, which means that it is not bad per se, but simply does its job. I think so, if anyone knows I wouldn't mind if they answered me
