It doesn't directly remove them but gets rid of the energy they have to use to exist and their foothold in this "dimension". So eventually they won't be able to do much or anything even if they try to come through.

The enemy was going to do a similar thing to us. So that it would be eventually impossible to really do much. They bound the Gods made it hard for them to communicate with us. Covered us in a field of curses and a matrix and tried to use this to block anything other than them from coming through to humanity.
