I have heard about chango from the 7 african powers.  Is he a demon? Or what is he? Does anyone know??

The Orishaa, 7 African spirits are not exactly  ancestors but they are names for the chakras and associated with them. Gods are code words for the chakras.
There are African gods who are representive of our gods such as the Vodun/Voodoo god Legba is Satan and a key word for the chi mercury and life force. The African Gods Dan and Damballah are the Kundalini serpent at the base of the spine. 
Just like Ogun/Ogu/Gu the god of metal working is Azazel
