This is a follow-up to my previous post Another School Shooting.
Many people think when in times of chaos and destruction, everyone will lose their minds and run around screaming their heads off; especially children, especially girls. And while a lot certainly do that, there are always heroes who rise above their fear and help others.
During the school shooting, a 12 year old girl girl was shot through the head while trying to lock the library door to protect her classmates. With the shooter still there firing shots, two of her 12 year old classmates picked her up and carried her to safety, and then one of her friends carried her out of the school to receive help. (She is still in critical condition in the hospital.)
When one 12 year old was shot and killed, her friend refused to believe she was dead and continued trying CPR for her, instead of hiding. Even with shots being fired, she refused to give up on her friend.
A 15 year old male was in the washroom when the shots began; when he came out, he saw another student lying in the hallway badly injured, and he rushed to get a teacher to help, even while hearing shots continuing to fire. They carried the student to a classroom, locked the door, and performed first aid.
16 or 17 students were hiding in the gymnasium equipment locker room (with their brave teacher guarding them, he was shot at but uninjured while trying to find out what was happening). They stayed silent as they heard what they thought may have been the shooter prowling around outside. One student had a pen and paper and wrote a message of hope to pass around to the other students, they passed it silently from hand to hand, and helped calm a hysterical 12 year old.
Other students helped protect their classmates by barricading classroom doors with their desks to prevent the shooter from entering.
Many other students, especially older students, were comforting and protecting younger students during the crisis; they were in lock-down for around 4 hours until the police were able to determine that there were no other shooters and evacuate everyone. (The police arrived at the scene within 2 minutes of being called, a quick response that is being praised world-wide; unfortunately, the shooter had done an extreme amount of damage in such a short time.)
I hope all those who survived, and the families of those who didn't, will heal from their trauma...
My greater hope is that this will never happen again. And that is why we need our Gods, who can guide humanity to a better state of existence.
