Christian theologians love to use "types" and "forms" (archetypal parallels that point to Divine concepts), but all of these concepts are stolen.
"Jonah is a sign of Jesus, Sarah is a type of Mary, the entire history of Israel are types of the Church", these are all meant to desensitize people to the grotesque idea that God chose only one suspiciously narcissistic and spiritually ill tribe to talk to for millennia.

It's not that complicated. The writers of the New Testament simply took Old Testament characters, stories and themes, mixed them with some Pagan concepts and repackaged them as a new story with new characters. They also made up the NT events in the way they thought they would be fulfilling OT prophecies (but many times were not, or they were fulfilling a prophecy from another book than the one quoted because the authors were retards, see Matthew 27:9-10 where it says that a prophecy by "Jeremy the prophet" was fulfilled yet that prophecy is found in Zechariah, not Jeremiah). That's why the characters have similarities and there are similar themes or numbers, like 12 tribes vs 12 apostles.

Without all the mental gymnastics of the theologians, if you consider that the NT was written in this way, it all makes sense.
