Why do we give attention to obvious trolls and just generally time wasting idiots?

Just ignore them. The more you focus upon them and the more you reply to them, the more time and energy you waste.

I know how it must be, that an idiot comes and spouts bullshitry, well personally, one or two people could like point in the right direction if in any case a newbie encounters the post, but why waste anymore time on them? They're obviously just here to mess with us, why give them the satisfaction?

If what they are doing is spreading lies, responding by telling the truth is a good thing. Because other people reading can learn about this piece of true information that they might have not known before.

I understand what you mean. Everyone has a tendency to jump in and take turns dogpiling onto the troll, which doesn't actually change anyone's minds.

However, there is also the value of newbies coming in and seeing the thread, and learning why the troll's mindset and actions are unacceptable in Satanism. The troll accomplishes nothing but wasting their own time as well.

We certainly do not want to give off the perception that we are ban-happy and shut down discussion.

The main function of a troll is just that, to troll. They aim to get a rise out of people and if it works they come back. As others said the only thing to do prevent misinformation from spreading but engaging in meaningless squabble with them is a waste of time.

For the most part we will actively engage to ensure any newcomers understand what is right and wrong. A teaching lesson. The other side of this is sometimes a troll comes to waste time a bother is, which we will then determine crushing them or being more or less lenient and ignoring them. It is really absurd to first approve something that is wrong and then write paragraphs to correct it. It does not help newcomers to learn the truth, but only to get a lot of input into their minds for an unnecessary opinion. It is confusing, there is nothing right or useful about it.

Of course one can talk about freedom of expression. And how to distinguish between an ignorant and stupid person and a malicious troll can be a matter of debate, well, people who strive for Godhood should be able to handle such simple things.

To summarize, the right approach is not to ignore it or to give the right answer, but to NOT ALLOW it in the first place.

Zevios Metathronos has literally likened these forums to the ancient forums back in the day. The name of these forums being ancient-forums is quite telling in that regard. So that being said, even fools and drunks can have their voices heard. Sometimes it is unpleasant, but also part of walking down the forum... I would like to have clean streets as well, but we do not have cleanliness by closing ourselves from it, but actually cleaning which is going to take some time.

Making an example in your case would be akin to just destroying them to ensure no others follow down the wrong path. I would say that is last resort. Not first.
