So here are some of my personal tips- I've been in your same boat! I felt at one point it was wrong to consume animals since I love animals..
Try buying from a local farmer..that butchers his own meats. Those cows get to be out in the grass..and get to be a cow before they are used for meat.
Raise your own chickens! They are easy to care for and don't require a lot of space. A lot of my neighbors have their own chickens so I get eggs from them often which is fantastic!
Grow your own garden. See what fits in your area as far as growing seasons. Right now I'm growing a lot of potatoes and corn..Both are super easy to harvest and store for many months. Rebuilding our soils is very important. Soil and plants are the ones who suck up that Co2 and replace it with oxygen.
Buy your milk local- We have local milk farms...but there's one in particular that I favor the most...because they actually let you visit their farms and pet the cows. The rule of thumb is if they don't let you see the cows, then there's something WRONG. They are doing sketchy practices that aren't healthy for our planet or YOU.
It can be overwhelming. It's also a lot of fun, growing your own food. Also, I enjoy hunting my own meats when available..but not everyone is comfortable with some things...To me, these are the things I try to do to make me feel more responsible for the earth and myself, for you it might be something different and that's okay. The reason why I started eating meats again was because I kept getting shakey and wasn't taking enough "supplements' from the store. I am not a big fan of over processed things to begin with..So why should I have to take a pill to make me feel better when I could be getting the things I need from food!?! It's a no brainer.
I call myself a "meat eater" but in reality I only eat small amounts of meat..Our society focuses so much on meat consumption it's not even funny. Look at countries where obesity isn't really a problem..like Japan and China...Google search once about their diets and what they eat to help maintain- well it's definitely less meat!!! But that diet works for me! experiment for yourself what works for you as far as costs and how your body reacts to things such as carbs and fats..
I too, feed my dogs a fresh diet when I can. Boiling chicken and brown rice. Or you can slow cook it. It's been hard lately to do so, since I started working part time at a store..which schedules me all kinds of odd ball hours...
I wish you luck! I would love to hear more about what you find and any articles you may find etc..
@mandy
I've heard this argument both ways. Personally I eat meat- that's why we have the teeth we do to plants and animals. Plants have feelings too- are we goug to stop eating plants too? Then we will die. Merging conscienceness taught me that plants have emotions in their own way but so do animals. If we stop eating them we die. But what else are some animals for if not for food- we have to help cows give birth. They can sacrifice meat in return. I hate thinking about it but as you said animals eat meat too. It's nature. Humans used to hunt buffalo and collect berries
--------------------------------------------
To:
I need some serious help with my diet. I adore
animals and they are a huge factor in my life. Eating them
has put me in a moral dilemma...
I was a vegetarian for 5-6 year, stopped, went
back to it for a year and now we are back to eating meat.
Reason being was income at the
time, it was hard to keep up a proper amount of protein and
I was getting lethargic, with more income it's
financially suitable to go back to being Vegan but I'm
looking for true health benefits and whats best for my body.
This is beast world, eat
or be eaten. If I don't eat meat, that doesn't stop
the lion from mauling a zebra to death and it doesn't
stop my dogs/ cat/ snake from eating meat.. If I have to
support the killing of other animals to keep my animals
alive, why would I not use these resources for myself?
All my pets are being put on a
raw diet, so they are able to eat biologically appropriate
food. (Plus kibble is awful!!! Cat should not eat kibble at
all!!! This is a total side note, if you haven't looked
into your pets food please do. Purina, Iams, Science diet,
and so many more are borderline poison. Watch the
documentary Pet Fooled on Netflix it is a great one. )
So if I'm
buying meat, and supporting the meat industry why would I
not eat it myself? No matter what happens there is always
going to be a demand for meat, even if ever human on earth
stopped eating meat, we still have to raise live stock to
feed our pets.. I mean unless everyone just stops owning
animals.
Yet, I feel like
shit about it. I love cows.. I love birds.. I love fish. I
love them all and if it came down to it I'd much rather
observe an animal than kill it.
What do you guys eat? Anyone have any advice
that might help with this?
