Twin flames

Can someone explain the twin flames to me? I've done the research but I TRULEY don't understand. Can some1 explain how it relates to our soul mates?

I could suggest reading the "Emerald Tablets of THOTH." There's a passage where Thoth speaks to Death, and see it as one large flame in which "some sparks bloomed as flowers of fire as others faded out. Yet they all return to the one great source of fire. In this way, "from the one comes the many" we are ALL connected! Some food for thought!
