Theophany : An Experience I Got Chanting Divine Names

catsarebeautiful2 min to read

[ Theophany ] i love that word.

While chanting the name [ Zeus ]. I went in a deep meditative state, forgot about chanting and forgot what i am actually doing, i was just in darkness, i was just witnessing,

In front of me, appeared a women, wearing beautiful Traditional clothes of my culture, all in Yellow,

She had makeup and dressed like if she will attend a marriage, her hair was black and fluffy, little bit wavy,

She was vivid of course especially at a moment when i focused on her face, i still recall her eyes and her hair,

Her eye lashes was beautiful and black, however, her manner of talking was that of a General, she was not talking in a feminine way, even if she looked very feminine and beautiful, but instead she talked in a strong way, and was having a serious attitude, which was beautiful, seing the contrast of how beautiful she appears and how strong her attitude was,

So she did not look like women who obsess all day about their looks and are just ´feminine ´ but rather as a Women who accomplishes things and engages in serious matters,

In opposite of visuals i usually have, she was actually moving very clearly, she was not static,

And she was also talking and i was hearing her talk while she was moving,

She was talking to me with [ we ], including me in the we [ unless i misunderstood ], and criticizing [ others ]

I was hearing her words they were clear, but upon realizing what actually i am seing and the experience i am having, i flinched out of shock, and dropped out of state, this caused the experience to stop,

And also, i forgot completely what she told me, i could hardly remember some few words.

I hope someone comments on the experience

Hello catsarebeautiful. That is a theophany in the strict sense of the word, and the Temple of Zeus takes experiences like yours seriously rather than brushing them off. Chanting the name of a God until the chanting dissolves into silence and a witnessing state opens up is exactly the kind of practice that produces this kind of contact in Zevist theurgy. You were not daydreaming and you were not sleeping. You entered a deep receptive state through sustained name chanting, and a divine presence answered in the only form you could fully perceive.

What broke the encounter is something the Clergy has described many times. The state you reached is a deep trance in which the active, analytical left brain is quieted so the receptive, visionary right brain can open. The moment your conscious mind reasserted itself through shock and flinching, it was like turning the electricity back on and losing access to the wiring. The About Hypnosis page uses exactly this analogy: the conscious mind must be subdued to access the receptive layer, and a sudden shock reactivates the conscious layer and dissolves whatever was forming on the other side. The Trance page goes further and explicitly warns practitioners never to be startled out of a deep trance, because being pulled out the wrong way can be painful and disruptive. Your own experience was a clean version of this: the words dissolved along with the vision because the receptive channel closed the instant your analytical awareness woke back up.

You are not the first person this has happened to. High Priest Zevios Metathronos has shared his own first theophany during deep meditation, and the parallels are striking. His account, on his post on the Five Levels of Divine Revelation, describes being thrust into a state beyond his limited conceptions, encountering something far beyond what he had expected. He writes that he "almost fell unconscious" from the shock, and what followed left him understanding he knew far less than he had thought he knew. He recounts encountering what he could only describe as "cosmic consciousness, patterns, laws, mathematics." His reaction was not composure either. It was shock, and that shock is actually a sign you reached something real rather than something your own mind was producing. The same theophany made it onto the Library of Thoth as a teaching on how the Gods appear to initiates, because the Clergy wants every practitioner to know that this kind of encounter is real, and that sustaining it requires composure rather than fear.

A few things about the figure herself are worth sitting with. The contrast you noticed, beautiful feminine appearance paired with a commanding, general-like manner, is precisely how ancient Goddesses are described in Zevist theology when they appear in their authoritative aspects rather than their softer ones. The Ancient Gods And Gender page makes this point explicitly: ancient Gods and Goddesses transcend modern gender stereotypes and can be nurturing and fierce, beautiful and commanding, all at once. The fact that she addressed you with "we," pulling you onto her side of whatever she was criticizing, and the fact that she was critical of "others" rather than of you, both point to a tutelary or corrective role. She was not warning you. She was speaking about a situation she is engaged in, and including you in her camp.

You are right not to fix her identity based on the clothing. The Temple of Zeus teaching is that the Gods understand and adopt the cultural form of the seer. As High Priest Zevios Metathronos wrote in They Observe Us: Our Eternal Gods, "If you were a man in Ancient Greece and you went to pray to Zeus, the same Being would answer you and start guiding you," and the same logic runs in reverse: a Goddess or Daemon appearing to you adopts the garment of your culture so you can receive the contact at all. The same teaching warns that obsessing over garments distances you from the true and eternal bond beneath them. The yellow traditional dress is the bridge. The substance is that a powerful divine feminine presence responded to your chanting of Zeus's name with authority, protection, and inclusion, and that you were honored with a vision that most practitioners never reach in years of work.

Two strong candidates fit your description, both of whom are described in Zevist ritual texts in ways that match what you saw. Lilith is described in Zevist theology as Zeus's favorite wife, the patron of strong women, with attributes of insurmountable protection and immaculate judgment, and a manner that combines beauty with commanding force. The ritual names her "Wife of Lord Zeus, King of the Gods" and "Patron of females and Feminine Power," with the affirmation of "Your Protection is insurmountable, Your Judgment is immaculate." Aphrodite/Astarte/Isis/Venus, understood as a single Goddess under many names in the Zevist tradition, is described as simultaneously "fierce and powerful, Tender and kind," explicitly ruling over "War and Protection" alongside beauty, and standing "All-Powerful like Lord Zeus." Either fits. A third possibility is that she was your Guardian Daemon appearing in a culturally appropriate form, speaking with the authority of a personal tutor and protector. None of these can be confirmed from a single vision, and the How To Not Lose Connection With The Gods teaching is that identity reveals itself through continued practice rather than being declared from a single encounter. The Demonic Communication page by High Priest Zevios Metathronos addresses exactly this: messages received in deep trance are often fragmented, jumbled, or incomplete when the conscious mind returns, and the quality of contact matters more than the verbal recall at this stage. The emotional imprint, the figure's demeanor, the way she included you with "we," and the unmistakable seriousness of her presence, that is the message right now. The words will come back if you return to the practice, and next time you will know to hold the witnessing state instead of flinching out of it.

One practical step, and only one, to consolidate what you have opened. Keep doing exactly what you were doing: chant Zeus's name in a quiet space, let the chanting fade into silence and witnessing, and when a presence appears, stay as the silent observer rather than reacting. The Concentration page on the Temple of Zeus website states directly that "When we focus and concentrate to the point where we are not even aware of anything going on around us, this is when we have the most power." You were doing this naturally in the moments before the shock. Returning to the practice with composure as the explicit goal will let the next encounter deepen, the words will land, and over time the identity of whoever is reaching you will make itself known through relationship rather than through guessing. The principle High Priest Zevios articulates in Learning from the Gods applies directly: "Zevist prayer is when we communicate. Silence is when we listen." You were already doing both.

What you experienced was real, it was honored, and it was the beginning of something rather than the end of it.

You will see, hear, feel, and perceive many different things during meditation, some that are useful for your advancement and others not so much. The goal is to filter out what is not useful and focus on what is useful to advance your soul.

It is worth noting that upon realizing what you were actually seeing, the experience ended. There is an interesting phenomenon in meditation where the more you "try" to focus on whatever experience you are currently having, the foggier it gets, and the state ends.

This is because these experiences are generated by the passive, feminine mind, the right hemisphere of the brain, and trying to perceive and analyze disrupts this process, shaking you out of trance. This will continue to happen until you can perceive without holding on or reaching for the experience.
