Is yoga, in my opinion. I know some of you on here are older, like I am, and being a "gym bunny" is no longer an option. I have gastritis so I found out the hard way that I can't do all the puffing and huffing anymore. But yoga is excellent--it is even better than the others. It will tone you, make you lose weight, and stimulate your vital organs, as well as making you feel great. I would recommend a very cheap book, Richard Hittleman's "Yoga: 28 Day Exercise Plan"--you can get it off Amazon for pennies. I will no doubt move on to Lilias Folan's DVD's at some point, but not until I get strong enough with Hittleman's book. Plus, if you do yoga before meditating it really enhances your efforts, and it can help raise the kundulini apparently...but you have to do it right, follow what the book says and be serious about it--I used to try to go too fast, and it's not about that--you do very slow movements and stretch your muscles. It's very easy to get started, and is very rewarding all-around, especially for people who hate to exercise the other ways...

I completely agree with this. My fiance and I actually do the P90X stuff you see on TV. I was pretty skeptical about it before we got it, but almost everyone I talked to about it had used it, and liked it, so we tried it. It has a bunch of different stuff on it ranging from regular weight exercises for your arms, legs, chest, and back, but it also incorporates kenpo, yoga, and plyometrics(jump training). All of them are good workouts, but the yoga exercises are the absolute hardest of them all, I can't even make it through the whole routine yet. Anyone who is thinking about starting yoga, DO IT!

On a side note, anyone who has the cash to get P90X, or has the ability to 'acquire' it from online sources, I would absolutely recommend it. Of course it is kind of corny and the host can get pretty bad at times, but it really is a great way to start getting in shape, or if you already are in shape, a great way to get REALLY in shape. It pushes you extremely hard, but in a healthy way while taking care of ALL of your muscles. You work a different group every day so you don't fatigue them and all that. It also has a complete nutrition plan that is pretty easy to follow and gives you enough options to actually work. All in all, it actually does seem like a comprehensive and RESPONSIBLE way to start shaping your body into optimum shape. Like I said, I would definitely recommend.

BUT, there's a hidden thing here. You shouldn't do hatha yoga the same way you do a physical exercise or you'll not feel any effects on your bioelectricity. The Asanas are done for the objective of relaxation and concentration, not forced like a physical exercise. I think Maxine said about this in the JoS site. And many yogis say this. I personally don't know about the books and dvd you say, but most books and sites on hatha yoga view it as a simple exercise without any spiritual meaning.

Yes of course. The book I mentioned is one that even Maxine said she has had and used for years. And Lilias Folan's DVD's, she was doing a yoga t.v. program in the 1970's, she does it the right way--slowly and mindfully.
