I'm new at using tarot cards but so far I've found them to be really accurate. Last night I decided to do a reading on a general state of our nation (US), inspired by HP Maxine's astrology reading.. I used the celtic cross format because that's the only one I know right now. I found it interesting but would like more insight into it.

Position 1 (general environment): 4 of Wands, facing up. Concord, peace, prosperity

Position 2 (obstacles): The Moon, facing left (the name at the bottom was facing left). Hidden enemies, danger, deception.

Position 3 (ideals of situations, hopes): Temperance, facing up. Economy, moderation, frugality, accommodation.

Position 4 (what there is work with): 6 of Pentacles, facing up. Presents, gifts, vigilance.

Position 5 (past): 5 of Pentacles, facing up. Material trouble, not harmonized.

Position 6 (coming into action): 9 of Wands, facing down. Obstacles, adversity, calamity.

Position 7 (himself/herself): The Chariot, facing up. Succor, providence, war, presumption, vengeance, trouble.

Position 8 (environment, house/family): Justice, facing down. Law in all, bigotry, bias, excessive, severity.

Position 9 (hopes/fears): Knight of Pentacles, facing down. Inertia, idleness, stagnation, carelessness, discouragement.

Position 10 (future): 8 of Cups, facing down. Great joy, happiness, feasting.

The definitions came from the little book included with the cards. Just writing it down again got me all giddy! If any of you have any other interpretations or something I overlooked let me know! That's how I learn.

When I read the tarot, I ALWAYS have all my cards facing upright.

If there is a negative or ominous answer, it ALWAYS shows itself in a card that represents TO ME what doom or destruction may come. An upright card of trouble, say, The Devil, The Tarot, The Moon, 3 of Hearts, 9 of Swords,....etc...

It is just my way of doing things.

I don't like to mix them up upside down and right side up. It can cause confusion that way. After all, if the card was aslread stuck in there upside down, it will automatically come up upside down. Where is the true answer there?

As a long-time tarot reader, my gut feeling about this reading of yours is that it is saying "it's not going to be easy but there is much hope for the future." As you are new to reading, I would suggest a few things if I may. Keep practicing, and keep expanding beyond just the Celtic Cross spread--there are many spreads out there and some are going to be easier for you to work with than others, and offer more success. My very favorite spread is in the Gothic Tarot, it is called the Mystic Seven and it answers questions very well for me. Also, you might try different decks as you become more adept. Get the ones that "speak to you" in some way. As you progress, you will find you can use your intuition to figure out meanings, oftentimes, more accurately than the ones in the instruction booklets. I love this art, and it does work very well. Best of luck.

I downloaded an app on the iTunes app store called Tarot-Holic. It basically uses the raider white deck and has many different formats for different situations. I've been using that lately and it's been working really well!
