Sun square affirmation + date/time?

Yes, it would definitely work! They're not too broad. It looks a lot like the affirmation I use during Saturn transits to my rulers. The Sun will be home in Leo from the 23rd of July. Sunday the 26th of July is a great time to start the Sun square. You can keep doing this until the Sun goes into Libra. Check this page on the ToZ:
