Spiritual or Material Square?

If I am trying to improve the affairs of a house, especially if it's all affairs and not one specific goal. Would I use the spiritual or material square? I keep thinking of it as using the spiritual square improves the foundation for all events related to that house. But the material square explicitly is well, material.
