Slight trouble with yoga

A few days ago I started the Hatha Yoga program. I have a few concerns about it. One main one is that I'm afraid I'm not doing the poses right. Even after I look at the images on how to do it and read the instructions, it still feels like I'm doing it wrong. A lot of times, like with the cobra pose for example, I'll feel a lot of pain no matter how high I lift my chest off the ground. Another problem I've been having is that I can't hold the plow pose for very long at all, maybe a couple seconds tops. Is it an integral pose in the program? Of course I'm gonna keep trying to do it over and over, but I'd just like to know if it's 100% necessary to use in the program as a whole. Finally, I haven't been feeling much of an energy buzz when I rest in the corpse pose. Very rarely do I ever feel an energy buzz actually.. Is that normal, and if not, what can I do about it?

I'll use the example from HP Hooded Cobra [paraphrased]: a baby can't be expected to run any more than a novice can be expected to enter the Olympics.
Do what you can. Take notes. Expect only that you will do as much as you can safely today. Don't push too hard or there may be health issues [sprains etc].
Yes, the cobra poise is necessary. You can do it if you pace yourself.
