Self Sufficiency

Self sufficiency is a myth and you should forget about it. Well at least in the Bear Grills, one man army, go it alone meme that is promoted. Because that is what people think and are taught many times in my experience.

And I disagree because I've been thinking a lot lately. And looking at my world, and my journey on the path, I can't forget all the key moments. Many chapters in the book of my life might be without note to anything but one man and the opposing forces of the struggle.

But there are always key pieces of the story involving others. And sometimes without these others, the story would slow down if they had not been there. And some cannot be removed from the plot at all without causing an abrupt end to the book. So I believe in the importance of never getting too buried in the plot of one chapter at the expense of forgetting another.

So I've been thinking of key moments. Sometimes so short and simple yet so powerfully transformative in my life by the hand of others. One example is how the forces of Hell have led me here. They did so little in the grand scale of things. Drawing my attention and prodding me in certain directions at a handful of key moments. But it was efficient and perfectly choreographed and created a radical change for my life. And where would I be without that?

And I think that it's no longer possible to be arrogant. Because I could reach any accomplishment, but it would never be that Hailodin666 did it as a one man army. It would never be that I was an island. There will always be a keystone to it all. That if Marty McFly went back in time with a DeLorean and removed my story would crumble. So I believe the Bear Grills attitude dilutes our strength and regresses us.

Stands braid together into string. Strings braid together into rope. And that is where the strength comes from. The meme is taught that a strand doesn't need the rope.

I am all for being able to rely on yourself as much as possible. But a healthy self sufficiency is many parts woven together. So don't take this the wrong way. I am just trying to discuss what is the way to a healthy perception of individual strength. And how does this strength dovetail into the whole. Because we all have a cameo in someone's else's book serving at that key moment in their story.
