I was very depressed when I was a kid. Then I chose not to be, and I chose to build better mental habits instead and choose to think of something else. Think of a different thought instead, feel a different emotion instead. It might be difficult at first to create a new habit, but it is literally that basic and that simple to do. We are in control of our own thoughts at all times, so choose to have good ones. A bad thought is a worthless distraction, so do not pay attention to it and choose to think about something good instead. Nobody can ever blame anybody else for whatever emotion that yourself is feeling because this is how you are choosing to react, when you could practice training yourself to react in a different way instead.
High Priest Zevios Metathronos's post about how to quit drugs is basically this same thing. It is about training yourself to have a better habit of thoughts to stop thinking about wanting something that is bad for you. Whether it is wanting to harm your body by smoking a cigarette, or wanting to harm your mind by focusing on bad emotions. They are the same thing, it is the thoughts that you are choosing to focus on. Focus on something good instead.
