I'm amazed at the number of people I've come across who are extolling the wonders of this healing modality, One told me, "It's basically learning how to cleanse and heal the chakras," then went on to explain all sorts of "stuff" that, after distilling all the excess verbiage, boiled down to clairvoyance, clairaudience and mediumship, as if these were some great mysteries available only to initiates, a select few, i.e. those who received (and who could afford to receive, I might add) "Level III Reiki" and later became a "Master" (at additional cost, of course.)
What seems to have a basis in fact, i.e., chakra cleansing, healing, and the above mentioned extra-sensory phenomena, also seems to have been new aged to death. Obviously, learning to become a "Reiki Master" can be hard on the pocketbook. It also takes time ( but there's nothing wrong with the time aspect; anything worthwhile does) although there are apparently some characters that have jumped on the bandwagon claiming you can learn all this on the Internet for less cost & less time. The opposite side of the camp says you must attend all these classes, etc., or your knowledge will be grossly incomplete and ultimately useless.
It seems to me that they have made something comparatively "simple", relatively speaking, and revamped it into something exceedingly convoluted and complicated. If, as I suspect, it has been corrupted (if not invented) by judeo-xtianity & its cohorts, it is but another trap for the unwary and unknowing who want to a) learn to heal themselves and others b) want to make money doing it, and c) want to become known (their proverbial 15 minutes) as one possesses these "extraordinary" abilities. They do report considerable success (which I have not had the opportunity to verify), but that does not in itself establish it as legitimate.
At any rate, my bullshit antenna certainly went way up. Has anyone else had experience with this?
