Grotto32 recently brought up the subject of blood types, and it made me think of a show I saw not long ago. They noted how a small portion of the world population (around 15%) are Rhesus Negative (i.e. O-, B-, etc.).The term comes from the inability to accept a transfusion from Rhesus monkeys. This also manifests in the inability to receive blood from anyone who is Rhesus positive. The body actually attacks the blood cells from the donor. It can even be a problem if a women who is Rhesus negative mates with a man with Rhesus positive blood. The women's body could actually attack the foetus in the womb! In the past you actually had to take a blood test before having children for this very reason. Now, I wonder why people aren't tested anymore before procreating, and if this could explain the higher rates of miscarriages and birth defects. Also, they pointed out that this trait is higher in Europeans than anyone else. The Basque of Spain have the highest percentage of this trait apparently, at 32% if I remember correctly. Does anyone know more about this, what it could signify? Makes you think...
