I good book collection really depends on what your like, for example, I'm an extremely logical person so I would recommend that every one have some understanding in the quantum realms for it would give you the most detailed explanation on what really happens in the universe around you and how to use it to your advantage. Steven hawkings, "universe in a nutshell" is a really good one.
Of course, I would also recommend a good psychology and sociology book so that one has a better understanding on the intricate web of xian filtration. But that's just me (way off topic)
Many in the group tend to focus in the "Satanic Bible" as being a `must have' book for all of the left hand path. However, the JOS group in general consider the author, Anton LaVey, to be atheist towards the existence of Satan and what-not. so really it's a book to consider weather or not it makes its self useful.
Another `must have' are books written by Aleister Crowley, I have yet to own any so I can not give any comment on weather its worth it but many have posted suggesting that its quite useful. Also, he has the tarot deck called "Thoth" if your interested.
Like siguard666 recommended, the Grimoires are good for sigil reference. Another good one is the Necronomicon translated by Simon. But like the Grimoires, you shouldn't do spells off the Necronomicon especially when the author go`s only by the name "the mad Arab".
Astrologically, there are few books made today that are worth even looking at, most of the book that had really good and accurate information haven't been in print for 40 years. The realm of astrology is extremely vast considering the planets at the time and location of your birth. One basic book that you can get that is still in stores is " the only astrology book you'll ever need" book. Personally, the majority of the book is useless, however! The book has loads of charts especially on the moon and comes with a CD with a chart making program which is extremely accurate. Other books that are in stores ( I think) are "Linda Goodman's sun signs", "the astrologer's handbook" by Frances Sakoian & Louis S.Acker, and one that I personally love cause it gives you a brake down on personality by age and gender "astrological insight into personality" by Betty Lundsted which was re-printed but has recently stop again.
Also, cause of some recent activities concerning vampires a book that I think is really worth looking up is "psychic vampires" by Joe H. Slate, Ph. D., he basis his work in a series controlled group experiments and explains his findings extremely scientifically.
You should really consider getting some of the books made available to you by the JOS site, one that I have is the "HELL'S ARMY SPIRITUAL WARFARE TRAINING MANUAL" which makes its self extremely useful even when not doing the training at all. Also, they have a "gods of hell" book which has 140 pages of gods and lesser demons with sigils etc.
