Question about Mars

I'm trying to find possible answers about what happened with mars? I've seen speculation that it once held life. A while ago I saw that it was possible a nuclear disaster happened to that planet. I'm really in the dark, but I love to theorycraft. I'm also trying to explain to people the horror of nuclear weaponry in a scale. If anyone could link me some information, I would greatly appreciate it.

If i'm not wrong a HP once said that humanity lived there before it was destroyed.

Yesterday i found this PDF about remote viewing of ancient Mars by the CIA, this is legit and come from a site of the CIA, i don't want to directily link their site here but if you search on Google "Crest CIA remote viewing Mars" you'll find it.
