I am writing a paper for my religion class. I want to give a fair, accurate, and unbiased representation of Satanism. I am a Christian. I have tried posting on Facebook to see if I know anyone, or if any friends of friends may be able to help, but I have had no response.
My goal is to identify and explain to best of my ability the perspective that Satanists have about Satanism, Christianity, and Islam. I am writing a paper which is an analysis of Bruce Lincoln's "Holy Terrors" ...I don't know how many of you know his work, but essentially he discusses his idea for what is necessary to create/obtain a religion, then humanizes the terrorists of 9/11 and his concept of religion-based violence is simply that anyone who can justify it as moral within their religion, will not see it as violence. He has a model of historical relativity that many religious groups use to justify their violent deeds.
I read a bit on your JoS homepage, but I really was hoping to talk to someone so I could have a better resource and perspective. Being a Christian, my impression of Satanism (as you may know) is warped and completely biased. However. Since I've been in college I've struggled greatly with my faith in Christianity and I think you will come to find that I have a more open mind than most.
I really am very interested in learning about the Satanist perspective about your own religion, my religion, and the religion of Islam.
