Please help me define LHP and RHP.

Are the terms LHP and RHP archaic and their true meaning lost, or is it true its a jewish/christian/islamic-based dualism?  The terminology I'm finding is stereotypical, over generalized and oversimplified which leads me to believe its both things.  Archaic and lost.  And perverted in order to hide its true meaning.
