Near Death experiences are greatly affected by the previous belief systems. Just like xians see jewsus and xian imagery, Hindus see their death god Yamraj, New Guinean tribes see a construction yard as their "heaven" in their near death experiences e.t.c. If you know how the astral works it should be obvious. In the astral if you believe something very strongly you will experience it no matter whether it's real or false.
To be more accurate it's not as much the religion but the culture you've grown in. If you've grown in the xian western culture, and you're an atheist, you'll still see xian figures and xian concepts in NDE's because they are still in your subconscious. Many atheists do still have xian programming. To have a point of reference you'll need to study what Eastern people see in their NDE's and you'll see that they experience completely different things than in Western culture. They don't see a "tunnel" or things like that.
