Probably just a chunk of metal..

Measure if you can detect any abnormal electromagnetic waves or fields, also try to detect any abnormal UV or IR raditation, or any radiation at all.. if you can not detect anything, it is probably just a chunk of metal xD

Agree with the modern art hypothesis, in part. Also think it's meant to be an 'alien artifact' in order to scare people or something in favour of the enemy... :/

If you look up closely, it's held together by 12 bolts so it's definitely man made and not an alien artifact lol.
