Your chart is shown as a circle. The very left-hand side, you will see a
dark line (which runs horizontally through to the other side, but we're
talking about the left side). This is your ascendent. Scroll down a bit
until you see "Rising Sign is in __ degrees ___", this will help you locate
your ascendent if my explanation didn't make sense.
From there until the next line (going down and to the right,
counterclockwise) is your first house. From that line until the one after
is your second house, and so on, divided into 12.
A "cusp" is the line, the first line for each house. So the first line I
explained, your ascendent, that is the first "cusp" (but always called the
ascendent). The second line, which ends the first house and begins the
second house, that is the cusp of your second house. The planet ruling the
sign that cusp is in rules your second house, along with any planets in it.
The following line is the cusp on your third house, and it is ruled by the
planet that rules the sign that the cusp is on.
The sign your ascendent is is, lets say Leo. The sun rules Leo, so your
chart ruler is the Sun. Or, if you're a Picses ascendent, then your chart
rulers are Jupiter and Neptune.
If the cusp of your third house is Taurus, for example, then your third
house is ruled by Venus, along with any planets that are in your third
house.
