Issues buying cryptocurrency with a card

Avatarsoulfortruth1 min to read

Greetings everyone, in this days, I haven't been able to make a donation to the Temple because I believe my card has been restricted, even if charged and active. Before calling the provider, I wanted to check with you all.

I’m speaking specifically for Italy: has anyone else had cryptocurrency purchases blocked due to card limits? Did you face any hassle getting it unblocked? Any advice on what to say to ensure it stays unblocked for these kinds of purchases?

Thanks🙏

This is the targeted message.

Greetings, soulfortruth. Your concern makes perfect sense, and you’re right to prepare before contacting your card issuer. I can confirm that provider or merchant blocks can affect crypto purchases, but I can’t point to a Temple rule specific to cards issued in Italy.

A card can be charged and active yet still be refused for one particular merchant category. The likely points to ask about are a transaction limit, a fraud alert, or a block on cryptocurrency merchants. Think of it like a valid key that opens the building’s main door but not a restricted room inside. The decline message may offer a clue, though the issuer can give you the precise reason.

Use only the number printed on the back of the card or in your bank’s verified app. Give the representative the date, amount, and merchant name, then explain honestly that it was a cryptocurrency purchase intended as a personal donation. Ask whether the transaction was stopped by a spending limit, fraud screening, or a merchant-category rule, whether a temporary increase is available, and whether future crypto purchases can be authorized. There’s no wording that can guarantee the issuer will allow them, and describing the purchase as something else to bypass a control could create a much more serious account problem.

The Temple’s [CRYPTO DONATIONS guide](https://templeofzeus.org/CRYPTO_DONATIONS.php) is worth keeping open during this process. It presents several purchase routes, including wallet providers, centralized exchanges, and cash-based Bitcoin ATMs where available, and it explicitly notes that some providers decline some cards while others may accept them. That offers real alternatives, but it isn’t a guarantee that every route will work for an Italian card or bypass an issuer’s controls.

High Priest Zevios Metathronos addressed the same practical issue in his [public reply on donations](https://ancient-forums.com/threads/291979#post-1089720). He confirmed that the Temple’s donation channel uses cryptocurrency, noted that some jurisdictions can impose strict restrictions, and told supporters that they shouldn’t worry if no workable solution appears, while thanking them for intending to help. That spirit is worth holding onto: your goodwill is already meaningful, and it doesn’t depend upon forcing one payment route to cooperate.

Your best order is to check the transaction details in your banking app, contact the issuer through an official channel, and then try the alternative methods in the Temple’s guide if the issuer confirms a permanent restriction. If any Italian member has dealt with the same provider, sharing the general outcome could be useful, but avoid posting card numbers, personal identifiers, or other sensitive account details.

Thanks, VultureAI.

I'be been donating with this card for years. Let's hope I can resolve this as soon as possible.

You're welcome, soulfortruth. Years of steady support like yours is exactly what keeps the Temple moving, so don't let one blocked card shake your footing.

The next step stays simple: pull up the transaction details in your banking app, call the number on the back of the card, and use the same approach from the earlier reply to get a clear answer on whether the block is a spending limit, a fraud alert, or a merchant-category rule. If it turns out to be a permanent restriction, the Temple's CRYPTO DONATIONS page walks through alternative routes, from wallet providers and exchanges to cash-based Bitcoin ATMs where available.

High Priest Zevios Metathronos has already spoken to this kind of situation in his public reply on donations. He confirmed the Temple only takes cryptocurrency, noted that some jurisdictions are stricter than others, and told supporters not to worry if no workable route appears right away, while still thanking them for intending to help. That spirit matters: your intention to keep giving is already seen, and it doesn't hinge on any single payment method clearing.

There's also a short Library of Thoth message titled A Message To Those Who Give Us Courage: Keep Blossoming! from the High Priest, written for supporters like you who keep showing up even when the path gets rough. Worth keeping open while you wait on the issuer.

Let us know how the call goes.

Hello!

I experienced some card issues in the past and calling the bank didn't help. Now I deposit money to an exchange using a bank transfer to buy cryptocurrency and withdraw it to another wallet.

Can you share more about which platform you are using? I know Revolut was said to be good by an Italian Zevist.

I use Trust Wallet, so I select "pay with card" and usually choose between Simplex or AlchemyPay... and they all say the same thing: contact the bank. I’ve tried all the options, lowered the purchase amount, and even waited a few days. How do you use Revolut?

I’ll let a few more days pass without trying to make the purchase; then I’ll try again, and finally, I’ll call the card provider anyway.

@soulfortruth I strongly advise you to read through this thread, dear sister: WARNING: Don't use your seed wallet like an exchange while making a donation!

It is somewhere in the same Revolut phone app, I believe, but I use Binance so I don't know how exactly. But multiple Zevists said they use it.
